If you can move beyond the perception of the Mentawai as only "primitive " then you may be able tp appreciate a culture whose veneration of the child ,centrally of the healing,and the emphasis placed on a rich web connectivity linking the individual to his or her clan and community, ancestor s of the past and future,aswell as the spirit of creation manifest in the natural cycle of daily life in the rain forest, makes our own lives seem narrow and disconnected . The Mentawai people have lived for centuries on their unique Archipelago of island, now reduced to a few settlements on the southern tip of Siberut Island ,They still have a strong traditional lifestyle though their future is threatened by external force such a longing,introduced diseases, and large scale settlement of non mentawai due to economic and population pressures in other part of Indonesia. INTERARY

1.Padang – siberut – muntei village The journey will start from Padang wE must be at port 06:30 ferry leave at 07: 00 with local fast mentawai, our trip will take around 5 hours including 1 hour transit at Sikabaluan nort Siberut when arriving at south Siberut port we will go to muntei village, rest. And prepare goods to be taken to the forest at 4.10 pm. we ride a small boat on the river and it’s time to leave (muntei village)You will be spoiled by the beauty of the wild…nature
2.We will go to the jungle on the same day
We will spend in the jungle 3days (2nights)
3.We will start our way to the jungle afternoon from Muntei village (it’s village where I live) by small boat (motor canoe). It will take from 2 to 5 hours (depends of weather and our plans, which we will discuss with you in details on place when you’ll arrive in Siberut)
— After boat trip we will have approximately 1-3 hour trekking depend,
— During our being in the jungle we can visit two places (two houses of two different families can be more to. So we’ll have also 1-3 hours trekking from one house to another depend.
we’ll go back from the jungle to the Muntei village by canoe.
About stuff you need:
— treking shoes if u have, or rubber boots we can buy in siberut.
— It could be comfortable for you if you will have air-mattresses and blankets for sleeping and warm jacket for a sleeping in the night. There is not cold in the night in the forest but anyway it’s always personal feeling.
Also it’s very useful to have a plastic rain-coats. Anyway if you’ll not bring it we can buy it in Siberut
Before start the way to the jungle we’ll buy some food like rice, noodles, biscuits, any vegetables food, etc, in Siberut.
Also we will buy presents for the people in jungle.
